Our Commitment

UW-Madison is a community of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the greater Wisconsin community focused on strengthening connections and support for all. No one should feel demeaned or be harmed as part of our community. Hazing behaviors are in direct conflict with our university’s mission and values. We remain steadfast in our commitment to preventing and addressing hazing.

Pillars of Prevention

1. Protect Our Students

We protect our students from harm by investing in resources, training, and education on hazing and response.

2. Educate Our Community

We keep our community educated on hazing culture, the signs of hazing, its impact, and effective intervention strategies.

3. Respond Effectively

We respond effectively to reports of hazing incidents on campus, helping to ensure that change takes place.

"Every year someone loses their life to hazing. We must raise awareness and recognize our role in preventing it."

Protect Our Students

In 2021, we formed a Hazing Prevention Coalition, established to help prevent and respond to hazing incidents on campus. To protect our students, we keep an active list of every organization that has been involved in a hazing incident.

Educate Our Community

Hazing has a long history and deep roots in various groups and cultures. Educating our community on what it is, where it comes from, and how to effectively respond to it is key to combatting it.

Respond Effectively

A key to successful hazing prevention is responding effectively when incidents occur. We strive to respond to each incident swiftly, intentionally, and in excellence.
